I’m a guest speaker to the public relations MA class at Manchester Metropolitan University this Thursday 19th Feb – the subject is online PR.
I was always taught that the first rule of public speaking is to ‘know your audience. This presents me with a real problem in terms of what to prepare for the students; the truth is I just don’t know at what level MA students in PR are familiar with all things digital?
Will they have online profiles – one assumes? Do they follow blogs, better still do they write their own blogs? Are they twittering while in the students union ordering snakebites?
I’ve decided to set a little challenge for them prior to speaking this Thursday. For the more online savvy students, hopefully there already listening to what’s happening out there – they know I’m speaking and I’m hoping some of them may have checked out this blog.
I will give £50 to the first student from the PR MA that I’m addressing this Thursday who responds to this blog – they can claim the cash face to face on Thursday.
I’m going to link this article to my twitter account (@nathanjsmith) and ask for a couple of retweets to get the word out there.
I’ll update you on Friday!
Hi there I think I'm the first student in this lecture to reply! Is the 50 pounds still redeemable?

Great idea Nathan, but wasted on Manchester... You should bring your innovative teaching methods to Newcastle Uni!

I think different Universities have different modules as part of the course so ,for instance, Richard Bailey implemented social media as part of the Leeds Met course which means you get a fair few Leeds Met students blogging (some longer than others).
Not seen any Manchester Met students blogging yet so you might be keeping your money!
